[Gill, Eric] MacCarthy, Fiona.

Eric Gill.

Third Edition. London, faber & faber, 1989. Octavo. XIII, 338 pages with 129 illustrations on plates and 58 Figures within the Text. Original Hardcover with original dustjacket in protective collector’s mylar. Excellent, close to new condition with only minor signs of external wear. A stunning condition of this landmark publication, revealing the paedophile behind the artist and triggering the question: “Can we separate the artist from the abuser ?” [see Guardian – article by Rachel Cooke. April 9th, 2017].

Arthur Eric Rowton Gill ARA (22 February 1882 – 17 November 1940) was an English sculptor, typeface designer, and printmaker, who was associated with the Arts and Crafts movement. He is a controversial figure, with his well-known religious views and subject matter generally viewed as being at odds with his sexual behaviour, including his erotic art and sexual abuse of his daughters.
Gill was named Royal Designer for Industry, the highest British award for designers, by the Royal Society of Arts. He also became a founder-member of the newly established Faculty of Royal Designers for Industry. (Wikipedia)
